India’s monsoon deficit and crop risks
India’s monsoon ended with a 13% rainfall deficit, with below-normal rains in 15 states and deficient or largely deficient rainfall in 313 of 741 districts. Maharashtra declared 265 of its 358 talukas drought-affected, while the FY27 foodgrain production target was cut by 2.63 million tonnes to 373.93 million tonnes amid El Niño concerns.
